Born on 24th September 1909 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Died 26th September 2000 in Manhasset, New York, USA. One of music's most prolific lyricists with over 800 published songs, he wrote music as well, but was advised by the great Johnny Mercer to concentrate on his fabulous lyrics. He took a break from writing during the war and he was awarded the Bronze Star for his efforts in Africa. He died at the ripe old age of 91 and he was still writing when he was well into his eighties.
